Bills try to put the Chiefs on notice by stealing Amari Cooper away in a trade
The Kansas City Chiefs won't be adding Amari Cooper before the trade deadline, as the Buffalo Bills just made a deal with the Cleveland Browns to bring the veteran wide receiver up north to Buffalo. This is unfortunate news for the Chiefs who could use another wide receiver to add to their arsenal after injuries have sidelined Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice for the entire season.
Now, not only did the Chiefs miss out on adding an electric playmaker to their offense but they lost out on him to the Bills. That's a double whammy for the Chiefs. To make matters worse, the deal didn't seem to cost Buffalo a ton. The Bills parted ways with a third-round pick in the 2025 draft and a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft while landing Cooper and a 2025 sixth-rounder.
That being said, the Chiefs didn't have much help at wide receiver a season ago and still managed to win their third Super Bowl in five years. The Bills might have seen the Jets trade for Davante Adams earlier in the morning and decided that they too needed to make a massive trade for a wide receiver to help their offense.
Chiefs lose out on Amari Cooper to Bills
With Adams and Cooper off the board, the Chiefs will have to decide if they want to swing big and go after someone like Cooper Kupp or stick with the names they have. Their starting trio at wide receiver as of now are JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson, and Xavier Worthy but they also have Travis Kelce to throw to as well.
There could be some other less expensive names to look into adding such as Mike Williams, Darius Slayton, and maybe even DeAndre Hopkins. That being said, with the Chiefs not needing a big-name wideout to win it all a season ago, maybe Brett Veach decides not to swing big and just lets Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes work with the wide receivers they have on the roster.
It's unfortunate that KC didn't make the deal for Cooper but at the same time, they've won with little at wide receiver before so don't panic just yet.
