Andy Reid knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a successful head coach.

The Kansas City Chiefs are where they are largely because Reid was installed as the team's head coach following a disastrous 2012 season that represented the low point for the franchise. After winning just two games that season, Reid returned the team to the playoff chase just one year later and has since won three championship rings in Kansas City.

The Chiefs are the new villains of the NFL these days, a dynasty-in-motion that still has plenty of legs given the presence of Patrick Mahomes under center and a dominant young defense that will keep them at the top of the AFC for years to come. Having Reid's leadership on the sidelines and in the locker room is the foundation of such a strong organizational culture.

The Chiefs' head coach had plenty of praise for the head coach at his alma mater.

Given his achievements, including being 4th on the NFL's list of all-time regular season wins, Reid is not only a Hall of Famer but will be considered for the Mount Rushmore of the greatest head coaches to ever lead a team.

All of this is important to have the proper perspective on Andy Reid's praise. When Reid says something, it carries weight. And Reid had plenty to say about the current head football coach at his alma mater, Brigham Young University, during an appearance at the 2025 Utah State of Sport Awards.

“I’m a big Kalani (Sitake) fan. I love the way he goes about his business, tremendous person, (and a) great recruiter. He’s got a huge venue that he’s entering with the new conference, but they sure did a nice job with it last year. I know he’ll build off of that going forward," said Reid.

Sitake has served as the Cougars head coach since 2015 and has led BYU to a 72-43 record in that span. He's also won five of seven bowl games as the Cougars head coach. BYU ended the 2024 seasons ranked No. 13 on the Associated Press poll with an 11-2 record capped by a win in the Alamo Bowl over Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.

Reid was an offensive lineman himself at BYU from 1978-1980 and began his coaching career as a grad assistant in 1982 for the Cougars football team. Reid played for the legendary Lavell Edwards and was on the same staff as Mike Holmgren.
