No one would blame the Kansas City Chiefs or their fans if they wanted to see the Tush Push get banned. After all, the Chiefs have been a team tasked with trying to stop the famous play in two Super Bowls and have had little success in doing so.
Well, the Tush Push's future in the NFL is murky. NFL owners will vote on if the play should be banned from the league and The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that momentum seems to be growing for a ban to happen.
One would think that Andy Reid would be all in favor of the Tush Push getting banned considering his team has been on the other end of the play. Well, when asked about the play, Reid gave a very Reid-like answer, pointing out that he can see both sides of the debate.
“Yeah, I don’t know, you can argue it either way. I’ve felt like it’s a successful play,” Reid said. “If there’s a problem with injury, possible injury, you’ve got to look at it. So, I would listen, probably, to the medical people on it, see what they think about the body mechanics. You don’t want to go through something like Buffalo went through — if it’s a neck situation, it’s going to be a risk. I think you have to listen to the whole story."
Andy Reid sees both sides to potential Tush Push banning
Reid isn't wrong here. The play is indeed successful and that's probably why a lot of teams are in favor of seeing it disappear forever. That being said, the injury-risk factor is something the league needs to look into if that's what other teams are claiming is the problem. Reid even pointed out how the Bills went through injuries when attempting the play.
Reid said the play being successful should not be why it's banned and that's something most would agree on (except maybe the owners of the teams who have to play the Eagles a lot).
It'll be interesting to see how the Tush Push situation plays out. Will teams vote to ban it and will it be for the right reasons? Or will it live to fight another season?
