The top five Jerick McKinnon plays from last season
3. Running to victory
We know he can catch the ball and we know he can block oncoming rushers. But sometimes it can be easy to forget that Jerick McKinnon is, of course, a running back. This huge play against the Texans was one of the highlights.
It came in what was a dour, forgettable game against a terrible Houston side that had won just two games to that point. But oh boy, was it an important touchdown.
Somehow, in a game that was had huge playoff seeding ramifications in the AFC, the Chiefs had struggled against one of the worst teams in football. A missed 51-yard field goal from Harrison Butker sent the game to overtime.
After a Chiefs punt and a Davis Mills fumble though, McKinnon called game. On the very next play following the Houston turnover, McKinnon busted free for a 26-yard touchdown run that won the Chiefs the game and clinched Kansas City’s seventh consecutive AFC West title.
The game as a whole certainly wasn’t pretty, but McKinnon’s game-winning run that extended KC’s division dominance and helped them to the AFC’s number one seed was a thing of beauty.
