The Kansas City Chiefs have officially selected Felix Anudike-Uzomah as their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Kansas City Chiefs are officially in the books in the 2023 NFL Draft and have started this year’s rookie class with the selection of Felix Anudike-Uzomah, a defensive end out of Kansas State.
Anudike-Uzomah has 19.5 sacks over the last two seasons with the Wildcats as a starter and should push for another starting role at the pro level opposite George Karlaftis along with Charles Omenihu. What’s even more heartening here is that Anudike-Uzomah is a Kansas City native so this allows him to live out a childhood dream, while the Chiefs will enjoy the productivity of adding the 2022 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
The Chiefs watched a lot of the players projected to them in mock drafts taken in the final 10 picks before them, as fans expected Brett Veach to potentially trade up. However, they ended up sticking at their initial draft spot and found value as well as a great story.
Anudike-Uzomah is the fourth official first-round selection made in Brett Veach’s six draft classes along with LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in 2020 and then both Washington corner Trent McDuffie and Purdue pass rusher George Karlaftis taken in 2022. The other first-round picks were parts of trades for Patrick Mahomes, Frank Clark, and Orlando Brown Jr.
The Chiefs have nine picks yet to make over the next six rounds, or at least that’s how things stand at the present moment. A look at the rest of the Chiefs’ selections:
