Adam Jones says that he has sources pitting the Chiefs and Bills as the final two suitors battling it out for a DeAndre Hopkins trade at this point.
At this point, it’s impossible to tell what will happen or not, so we’re only here to pass along what we’ve heard or seen ourselves, but the latest rumors surrounding DeAndre Hopkins and his potential trade scenarios come from the Pat McAfee Show where former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones is quoting sources saying the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are the two ultimate suitors battling it out for Hopkins’ services.
Earlier this week, McAfee’s show was also the source of information saying a trade was a strong possibility this week due to the draft after weeks and even months of speculation.
Beyond that, there’s really nothing new to report. Hopkins has been on the outs for a franchise that’s likely going to tank this entire season in the desert after changing head coaches this offseason from Kliff Kingsbury to Jonathan Gannon. Safety Budda Baker is also on the trade block and it makes sense for the Cards to get younger and less expensive at key positions while some assets remain quite tradeable (e.g. Hopkins).
The Chiefs aren’t in a position of great need with Travis Kelce and a young core in place anchored by Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. That said, the addition of a productive veteran like Hopkins would certainly move the needle in terms of keeping the Chiefs favored to win a second consecutive Super Bowl next winter.
The difference for the Bills and Chiefs will be about costs. The Bills have more urgency on their side to want to add another weapon in order to upset the Chiefs in the AFC pecking order. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have some real financial goals apart from Hopkins and it would be interesting to see how those financials would work out.
Given that the draft starts tomorrow, we’re likely going to hear some resolution soon enough.
