Trade Up: Baltimore Ravens

Chiefs fans might be sick of sending their first-round picks to the Baltimore Ravens, but their so-so attempts to win now could be to Kansas City’s gain.

After the team signed veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to a big-money, one-year deal, pundits and fans alike questioned the team’s long-term plans. After all, former MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson’s future with the team is murky at best. The team is not a division favorite in the AFC North, and injury problems seem to be an annual occurrence. They did make a postseason appearance in 2022, but they did not look like they belonged. The Ravens still have a good coaching staff, but their personnel issues are deep and wide.

According to Drafttek, Baltimore ranks 27th in draft capital in this year’s draft. With only five total selections and two in the top 100, Baltimore would have to hit on all five picks to have a successful class. But trading with Kansas City in the first round would relieve some of the pressure on the Ravens.

The two teams do have several links to each other and have made high-profile trades in recent years. The move would be sizeable up but propel Kansas City past their fellow contenders. This is a bigger jump than the Chiefs made last year to draft cornerback Trent McDuffie, but there are some players worth moving up for. I cannot predict how Veach and company have the draft board arranged, but they would only move up for a certain guy, not out of fear.
