Jordan Ta’amu, quarterback, D.C. Defenders

For a hot second, Jordan Ta’amu was a fairly popular player for Chiefs Kingdom, at least for those fans who love deep dives into developmental players. That’s because he was a developmental arm coming into training camp with some level of potential as a dual threat QB.

Ta’amu came to the Chiefs as a former XFL product from the league’s first time around as an exciting prospect on the St. Louis Battlehawks who showed potential to make the leap to the NFL after finishing his career at Ole Miss. He had multiple teams interested but chose the Chiefs due to the presence of Andy Reid on the sidelines. He would last the 2020 season with the team and then returned for another offseason in 2021, but was ultimately waived in favor of Shane Buechele, who is still with the Chiefs to this day.

It’s taken Ta’amu some time to put things together this year in the XFL, but he’s coming on quite strong lately with 5 touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last two starts for the D.C. Defenders. Last weekend, he had 3 touchdown passes and 285 passing yards to go with a 72.4 completion percentage—by far his best outing on the year. Given the fact that he’s only 25 and has drawn the interest of a coaching staff like the Chiefs, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if he gets another close look in an NFL training camp this summer.
