If you’ve spent even a few minutes on social media in the last week you know that fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are desperate to add to the wide receiver talent on the roster. The Chiefs have already lost Juju Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency and have yet to re-sign Justin Watson. Those three accounted for 118 receptions, 1,545 receiving yards, and 9 receiving touchdowns last season. Yes, the Chiefs have some weapons in-house that they are hoping take a step forward this year, but it’s understandable why fans would be anxious for a move at the position.

Many fans are hoping (praying?) for the Chiefs to either add Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency or make a trade for a proven star like DeAndre Hopkins of the Arizona Cardinals. Perhaps that will eventually happen and fans won’t feel the same anxiety they do now. Unfortunately, there really aren’t many other options out there in free agency that would move the needle at receiver. So if Brett Veach isn’t interested in what it would cost to bring in OBJ or Hopkins (or some other significant trade) that really only leaves the NFL Draft to address the problem.

Before we get to what wide receivers are available in the 2023 Draft, let’s address a couple of issues. First, Andy Reid has not typically had rookie wide receivers be big contributors. So even if they draft a receiver or two in the draft this year would that even lead to a lot of on the field help this season? History says no, but if the Chiefs really didn’t like the free agent options this year perhaps they are willing to give the rookie route a shot.

There aren’t many wide receiver options for the Chiefs in the NFL draft

The second issue is that there aren’t a ton of prospects this year that are viewed as potential star receivers and the couple that are will likely be off the board when KC picks. There are however a lot of prospects that can be successful contributors as part of an offense. There are also a ton of prospects that a lot of experts don’t agree upon. Go look at the wideouts expected to go between the late 2nd round and 5th round and you may see a massive variety in the order. So this piece isn’t about giving you an in-depth look at any one prospect. It’s an overview of who the prospects are so that if you would like to do a little more research of your own on what prospects you think would be the best fit for the Chiefs, you can.

For each prospect I’ll give you their name, school, height and weight, 40 time (if available), a two sentence scouting report, and my personal opinion on that prospect.

So without further ado, here is a preview of the top 25 prospects in the 2023 NFL draft.
