Will Chris Jones get his contract extension?

Chris Jones is the Chiefs’ pass-rushing anchor and he looked better than ever last season, in Joe Cullen’s first year as his positional coach. It was the sort of leap the Chiefs have been wanting to see from Jones since he arrived. While he’d always been a coveted disruptor who could impact a game, he’d yet to truly dominate on a game-by-game basis until last season.

The results of Jones’ elevated play speak for themselves: 15.5 sacks, a nod from Pro Football Focus as their Defensive Player of the Year, and a win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII. Jones is now a household name for NFL fans, and the Chiefs now have a true bona fide star on the defensive side of the ball.

As Jones comes into a contract season, he’s also climbing into his late twenties, which could give a team like the Chiefs some pause before wanting to extend him. However, his production last year and overall reliability point to a defender still very much in his prime, and it seems safer to bet on Jones with big money than not.

Jones has already hinted that an extension is coming (or at least that’s how we interpret his tweet), but until both parties have signed on the dotted line, his extension is one of the biggest questions facing the Chiefs.
