Andrew Wylie is following Eric Bieniemy out the door to the Washington Commanders with a lucrative new deal.

Andrew Wylie proved himself time and again over the last few years with the Kansas City Chiefs with a mix of reliability and versatility that came up big for multiple Super Bowl winners. Now the Washington Commanders have rewarded him with his first major payday.

The reports on Wylie’s new deal have him at a three-year deal worth up to $24 million in free agency.

Wylie entered the NFL in 2017 as an undrafted free agent after starting for several seasons along the offensive line at Eastern Michigan. The Indianapolis Colts took a flyer on him and he even made the practice squad to start the year, but he was released after a month. The Cleveland Browns and L.A. Chargers both gave him practice squad spots themselves that same season but let him go in the end.

From there, the Chiefs offered him a futures deal in 2018 and he’s been around ever since. He initially took on a starting role when Laurent Duvernay-Tardif went down at right guard and, over the years, Wylie proved he could also start in a pinch at left guard and right tackle. In 2022, Wylie held down the right tackle spot for all 17 games (and more in the postseason) and put up his best year yet while proving remarkably reliable.

That sort of durability and versatility served him well to cash in when free agency hit. Now he will help former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy put down roots in Washington to help change the team’s offensive fortunes going forward.
