The Kansas City Chiefs can check out a workout with Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday—that is, if they are interested.

One of the minor plotlines that has appeared every now and then for the Kansas City Chiefs over the last year has been the team’s potential interest in wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Sometimes it’s twisted the other way around. Either way, the Chiefs have often been among the franchises mentioned when discussing the future of the veteran wideout.

The latest report that has come through the NFL wire is that Beckham is ready to finally show teams that he’s healthy and ready to contribute with a workout. It’s scheduled to take place in Arizona on Friday, and the New York Giants are reportedly interested enough to be in attendance.

Whether or not the Chiefs would be interested is another question. Beckham is coming off of another major injury, one that has taken much longer to return from than initially believed. Beckham led teams down this road in the second half of last season and yet he couldn’t find any takers despite taking visits with multiple teams—including the Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

Would the Chiefs be intrigued at this point? There’s definitely room for moves at wide receiver this offseason, but any flyer on Beckham at this stage feels closer to the same sort of risk on John Ross or Corey Coleman than it does a solid vet signing. While Beckham’s history of production is much greater than either of those players, the truth is that he hasn’t been a steady performer since the 2019 season. He did enjoy a nice postseason run for the L.A. Rams in 2021, but that was limited.

Perhaps the Chiefs, in an effort to leave no stone unturned, will send some sort of emissary to Arizona to at least cross a name off of a list. And who knows, maybe he OBJ will surprise us all once again. But after other failed attempts to see something happen with Josh Gordon and Kelvin Benjamin, to name a few, there’s little reason to think anything will happen here even if you hear the team name linked once again.
