Eric BIeniemy could end up taking a Chiefs coach or two with him to join the Commanders.

The Kansas City Chiefs might be headed for a greater brain drain, as they say, in terms of leadership loss in the wake of Eric Bieniemy’s hiring by the Washington Commanders. Not only have the Chiefs lost their offensive coordinator, but Bieniemy might end up taking more coaches with him.

On Wednesday, NFL reporter Josina Anderson noted that Chiefs running backs coach Greg Lewis is headed to the nation’s capital to see what the Washington Commanders might have for him too.

Anderson also notes that Lewis has interest from several teams around the league.

Lewis certainly has greater ambitions for himself than being a positional coach alongside Andy Reid on the Chiefs’ sideline. In recent years, Lewis had requested a change on the Chiefs’ coaching staff from working with wide receivers to running backs in an effort to round out his resume a bit more.

Lewis was an eight-year veteran wide receiver in the NFL himself for Andy Reid’s Eagles in Philadelphia along with the Minnesota Vikings,

It will be interesting to see how things shake out for both sides as Bieniemy rounds out his coaching staff and the Chiefs recover from perhaps more than one loss. The departure of Bieniemy was expected and Matt Nagy was already in place to fill that role, most likely. However, the loss of a figure like Lewis would open up positional coaching roles for both the running backs and quarterbacks, which could open the door for new blood to enter the team (a la Deland McCullough’s hire from USC a few years ago).
