Kadarius Toney can even break ankles of KC Chiefs fans

One fan says Kadarius Toney’s cuts are so good that he injured himself celebrating the wideout’s incredible punt return in Super Bowl LVII.

Everything about Kadarius Toney‘s skill set seems like a blessing. As we’re learning, it can also be a curse.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded for Toney from the New York Giants at midseason before the NFL’s trade deadline because of his inimitable athleticism—a guy with the top speed to keep up with anyone along with the agility to make a move past even the most fluid defender. His cuts are also violent at times, which can often embarrass defenders. Hence the reason Chiefs general manager Brett Veach paid two draft picks for him.

The amazing thing is that Toney is so good that there’s actually a downside to his skill set at times. It was only a few weeks ago that we saw Toney go down with an ankle injury after juking an opponent with an incredible move. The joke is that such athletes “break the ankles” of opposing players, a la a crossover move by Kyrie Irving or Allen Iverson. In this instance, Toney “broke” his own ankle.

The good news is that Toney was able to return from a very real sprained ankle injury to play in Super Bowl LVII. He got very little playing time in the first half but then became a key component down the stretch—literally, the Chiefs do not win without him—as he not only scored a touchdown in the red zone but he also came up with this incredible punt return that put the Eagles on the ropes.

At this point, all of Chiefs Kingdom was celebrating a very real chance of winning Super Bowl LVII and felt thankful for Toney, but the wide receiver’s moves apparently got the best of someone else—yet again. This time, it was a fan.

Yes, that’s a fan taking to Chiefs Reddit (u/brokencorner) to explain that Toney got the best of him as well. He writes, “Kadarius Toney’s punt return was breaking ankles 1600 miles away. I ruptured my Achilles tendon celebrating that play last night. Totally worth it!”

Here’s hoping that fan gets well soon without any complications and that Toney’s days of injuring himself or anyone associated with Chiefs Kingdom is over. At the very least, our ankles should be safe until training camp rolls back around.
