Let’s look at the latest injury reports for the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, including the status of Kadarius Toney.

One of the most important players on the offensive side for the Kansas City Chiefs is also one of the newest on the team when it comes to, Super Bowl LVII.

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney wasn’t even a member of the Chiefs until the first of November, when the team swung a deal with the New York Giants to trade for him. Even then, he was injured for multiple games in the second half of the season and made a minimal impact when looking at a season’s worth of stats. But for those who watched Toney up close in red and gold, you know how important Toney can be for an offense that’s at its most effective.

The Chiefs are hoping Toney can be a full go after suffering an ankle injury in the conference championship win over the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago. Through the two-week break between the AFC title game and the Super Bowl, the Chiefs have watched Toney go from being unable to practice to a return to the field, but there’s no way of knowing just how healthy his ankle will feel or how well he will hold up under a full load until the game is played.

For the Chiefs, Toney will be given the green light to play based on practice results, and if he’s available, he opens up a considerable portion of the playbook for Andy Reid and this Chiefs offense. The Chiefs lost some downfield dynamism when they traded Tyreek Hill and lost Mecole Hardman to injury. While Marquez Valdes-Scantling is certainly fast enough to take the top off of defenses, Toney’s the one who is dangerous in space with the ball and a threat to take it home at any point.

Given the other injuries to JuJu Smith-Schuster and Hardman, the Chiefs will be leaning on everyone to step up and do what they can. Toney is going to be a real x-factor here for a team that needs him to help stretch the field or serve as a respected decoy who must command some percentage of the defense’s attention.
