Patrick Mahomes wins second Super Bowl MVP award
By Matt Conner
The official MVP for Super Bowl MVP between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs has been awarded.
The Kansas City Chiefs came from behind to put away the Philadelphia Eagles late in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII and most of that effort came on the courageous heroics of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It was only fitting, then, to bestow the official Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award to the Chiefs’ star quarterback.
The award is the second such honor of Mahomes’ career after also earning the Super Bowl MVP award four years ago in the team’s first championship win in 50 seasons.
For the game, Mahomes completed 21 of his 27 passing attempts for 182 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. He also added another 43 rushing yards on 6 carries, including a late 26-yard scramble on an ailing ankle to move the chains and put the Chiefs within easy field goal range for the win.
Mahomes played most of this postseason with a high ankle sprain after suffering the injury early in the first quarter in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the team’s playoff run.

The Super Bowl MVP award caps a year in which Mahomes already earned plenty of hardware, including an All-Pro nod, a Pro Bowl honor, and the regular-season MVP award—also the second such award of his career.
If Mahomes had not earned the award, another solid contender would have been linebacker Nick Bolton, who scored on an important second-quarter play when he picked up a fumble by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. He also almost scored another touchdown on an overturned fumble by Eagles running back Miles Sanders.
