Patrick Mahomes live Super Bowl injury update: will he return?
By Matt Conner
Patrick Mahomes’ ankle looks like it’s an issue once again after taking a hit in the second quarter.
For the last two weeks, the reports concerning Patrick Mahomes‘ health—and specifically the status of his high ankle sprain—have been largely positive. Mahomes himself said he was feeling great, and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid backed up those words as his star quarterback practiced fully in the week leading up to Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona.
On Sunday, against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs are now viewing the ankle injury with concerned eyes once again.
Mahomes went down on a third-and-15 play near the end of the second quarter in which he was scrambling for a first down on a frustrating drive. He came up limping after the fact and now the Chiefs training staff has their work cut out for them as they try to get Mahomes feeling as good as they can back in the locker room for the second half.
Mahomes first injured his ankle in the first quarter of the team’s Divisional Round win over the Jacksonville Jaguars when defensive lineman Arden Key rolled on his leg. From there, Mahomes left for a drive but returned to finish the game and even played the next week in full, a conference championship win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
With two more weeks to heal, Mahomes sounded even more confident about his ankle coming into Super Bowl LVII, but now things are going to be dicey going forward if it’s feeling this tender.

And here’s a bit more with Henne loosening up just in case.
Further details are likely to come after halftime from the Chiefs, but his ankle and overall status will be something to watch.
