Patrick Mahomes is looking healthier for the Chiefs as the Super Bowl draws nearer.

As the clock counts down to another Super Bowl appearance for the Kansas City Chiefs, all eyes remain on the team’s injury reports with each new day of practice. Considering the number of players dealing with lingering injuries, the team’s primary concern is about putting together as healthy of a roster as they can before suiting up to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The good news is that things are looking up quite a bit, especially compared with how the Chiefs looked and felt one week ago.

Last week, an estimated practice injury report was rolled out—a way for the team to update press on how players were feeling despite not having an official practice—and it was not good. Several players were termed “out” or “limited” and that includes key starters on both sides of the ball.

These days, head coach Andy Reid told reporters that players are practicing in full who were on that very list—from linebacker Willie Gay Jr. to wide receiver Kadarius Toney to cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. The latter just came out of concussion protocol earlier this week.

The biggest name to watch is, of course, the team’s star quarterback: Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes had a Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman roll over his leg back in the Divisional Round and the result was a high ankle sprain. He returned to that very game and played every snap in the conference title win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but it was clearly limiting what he wanted to do on certain passes or scrambling opportunities.

Reid stated after practice on Wednesday, however, that Mahomes looks solid. Per a pool report from the PFWA:

"“You got a bird’s eye view of him today,” Reid said of Mahomes. “He’s an amazing guy. Half of it is how strong he is in the mind. He wills himself to do things and doesn’t give himself any excuses. You saw it [today]. You saw him roll to the right, roll to the left, taking snaps from under center. All the things that are a little tougher. I thought he did well.”"

The Eagles’ front line is going to provide enough challenges without Mahomes having to worry about his own physical limitations. While the ankle won’t be at 100 percent, if he can give it one last gasp this season on the ankle as it, the Chiefs have a real shot at another Lombardi Trophy.
