Andy Reid can silence critics with second Super Bowl win
Andy Reid has faced a lot of criticism over the years for his postseason woes, but that can all be overshadowed by a second Super Bowl win.
Andy Reid is preparing to capture the Lombardi Trophy for the second time in his career. He waited 21 years as an NFL head coach to earn his first. Now, he has a chance to win two in four seasons.
Reid’s journey to get to this point has not been an easy one in his coaching career. With expectations very high, Reid has fallen short many times.
Reid guided the Philadelphia Eagles to four consecutive conference championship games, losing the first three. The Eagles advanced to the Super Bowl after their fourth NFC Championship appearance but lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 39. Reid appeared in another NFC Championship game with the Eagles four years later but lost to the Arizona Cardinals.
After getting fired by the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2012 season, Reid had one of the better stories during the 2013 season, turning the Chiefs from a 2-14 team to a team that started 9-0 in 2013. However, that season had one of the toughest endings a team has ever endured in NFL history after the Chiefs blew a 28-point lead to the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs. In January 2018 and January 2022, the Chiefs blew 18-point leads at home in the playoffs to the Titans and Bengals respectively.
Reid is one of the most decorated head coaches in NFL history. He is fifth all-time in career wins with 247 and has the second most postseason wins with 21 among head coaches. There are a plethora of Pro Bowlers and All-Pro players who have played for Reid in Philadelphia and Kansas City.

Yes, winning a championship is no easy task. But there has been a lot of criticism surrounding Reid for years for his postseason struggles. Prior to this season, Reid had led his teams to nine conference championship games, but has just one ring to show for it. In the event the Chiefs lose on Sunday, the narrative would only grow stronger.
However, if the Chiefs win Super Bowl 57 on Sunday and if Reid gets his second ring, it will erase a lot of criticism he’s received when it comes to his postseason struggles.
Sure, there might be a few out there who point out that two Super Bowl wins out of 10 total conference championship appearances is not ideal. Yet Reid’s resume will show multiple Super Bowl wins, which would make him the 14th coach in NFL history to win multiple Super Bowls.
His past postseason woes won’t be forgotten, but his multiple Super Bowl wins can’t be taken away from him either.
