2. Patrick’s ankle could add to the Mahomes’ legacy.

Mahomes had a gutsy performance against the Jaguars after he suffered a high ankle sprain. While he never wanted to come out of the games, Andy Reid insisted that he got his ankle looked at more carefully. When he got word that his X-rays were good, they allowed him back onto the field where he lead the Chiefs to their fifth straight AFC Championship. Now, he’s got an even bigger task: Send the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl during his tenure.

We’ve all seen some historic things in the NFL. Perhaps you think of Kellen Winslow leaving it all on the field and being carried off by his teammates. Maybe you think about the first Brady Super Bowl or the “Dez Caught it” game. Mahomes has a chance to not only solidify his role in starting a dynasty in Kansas City with a win in this one but also be forever remembered as having one of the greatest performances in playoff history.

While Mahomes may have to run the offense in a way that is different than he did when he was fully healthy, no one expects him to be a shell of himself. Rather, everyone is looking for continued greatness, whether they win or lose in this one. Expectations can be breeding grounds for disappointment, but if he comes away with a victory here, he will solidify himself as legendary.
