Before the 2022 season, the Chiefs went through a major defensive overhaul, most of which was focused on a complete revamping of the secondary that included a youth movement marked by five draft picks in 10 selections.

Alongside rookies like safety Bryan Cook and corner Trent McDuffie, the Chiefs also brought a pair of veteran safeties into the mix. Justin Reid was signed to serve as the veteran anchor and take over Tyrann Mathieu’s spot. For further competition and special teams play, the Chiefs also made the smart signing of grabbing Deon Bush away from the Chicago Bears.

Bush has played sparingly for the Chiefs on defense, but he’s been a core special teams player for Dave Toub this season and he gives the Chiefs further security in case younger players experience hiccups.

After six seasons in Chicago, Bush has barely played in the postseason with only two single-game appearances on his resume. Now with the Chiefs, he’s got a chance to experience a deep postseason run and perhaps put a ring on it.
