Chad Henne had to step in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars when Patrick Mahomes was dealing with an ankle issue. Has Henne had any playoff experience or success in the past?

Quarterback Chad Henne has been the perfect backup for Patrick Mahomes as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs since 2018, and during the AFC Divisional Round game against Jacksonville, he showed why.

Henne came in when Patrick Mahomes was temporarily sidelined with an ankle injury and did exactly what Andy Reid wanted him to do. The former Michigan Wolverine managed the Chiefs offense to perfection, going 5 of 7 for 23 yards and a touchdown pass that extended the Kansas City lead to 17-7 at the time.

While Henne isn’t going to be expected to be the magician that Mahomes is on the field, he’s an ample backup and an experienced NFL quarterback.

What is Chad Henne’s playoff experience in the NFL?

Although he’s been playing in the league since 2008, Henne’s only other playoff appearance was in 2020 with the Chiefs in a 22-17 win over the Cleveland Browns in the Divisional Round. In that game, Henne again had to sub for an injured Mahomes, and was able to keep the offense on the field to run out the clock for the win.

His stat line against the Browns in the game was 6-of-8 for 66 yards and one interception.

Henne has no other playoff experience in his stops with the Dolphins or Jaguars prior to coming to Kansas City.

Will Chad Henne need to play again against the Jaguars?

Patrick Mahomes did come back in after the half, although he looked uncomfortable. It’s not known the severity of his ankle injury and whether or not he’ll be able to go for the duration of the game against Jacksonville.

It’s possible Henne may need to stay ready for not only tonight but for the next potential playoff game if Mahomes’ ankle injury is bad enough or gets worse over the course of the week.
