Chiefs news: Titans show interest in Eric Bieniemy, Matt Nagy
By Matt Conner
According to Jeremy Fowler, the Tennesse Titans have asked for permission to interview both Matt Nagy and Eric Bieniemy for their OC opening.
According to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Tennessee Titans have asked for permission to talk to a couple of members of Andy Reid’s coaching staff. Interestingly enough, the position is not for a head coaching role but rather a lateral sort of move for the names involved: Matt Nagy and Eric Bieniemy.
The Chiefs have several cooks in the kitchen on the offensive side of the ball, and the glut of opinions have often made it difficult to tell just who is responsible for the team’s overwhelming success. Of course, head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes earn their fair share, but teams trying to replicate K.C.’s sustained success have been reticent to hire away Bieniemy in the past—perhaps partially due to the overlapping nature of some coaching roles.
For the Titans, Mike Vrabel is still the head coach, and he deserves that position as one of the NFL’s great franchise leaders. The Titans have been a model of consistency themselves, even if that has also featured a lower ceiling than desired and they’ve always been a tough out for a team like Kansas City.
As Fowler’s report notes, the Titans have asked permission for an interview with both, and perhaps Nagy’s contract length has him under wraps for another year or more. That said, Bieniemy should be free to do what he wants after the season with his contract up, so the Titans should be given access there to form an opinion on EB, if not both.
Nagy joined the Chiefs coaching staff last year after spending the last four seasons on the sidelines with the Chicago Bears as head coach. Bieniemy has been with Andy Reid for a full decade, the last five years of which have been as his offensive coordinator.
