Around the AFC West: Chiefs continue pursuit of top seed

Denver Broncos / Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs and Broncos faced off at Arrowhead in a game the Chiefs needed to win to continue their search for the AFCâs top seed. Inexplicably the Chiefs just canât seem to play to their talent level; rather, they are playing down to teams they should stomp. It happened again with the Broncos this week. Look, I know they are a professional team so they have talent, but the Chiefs are better. They let the Broncos hang around and made mistakes by giving them opportunities  to remain in the game.
With good teams in the playoffs, those kinds of mistakes will cost you games. Itâs that simple. If the trend continues, we may be disappointed, Chiefs Kingdom.
However, the Chiefs managed to pull of the win on Sunday and the most impressive part was probably the continued tear of Jerick McKinnon.
Seriously, this guy is Mr. December/January and I love every minute of it. His connection with Mahomes is fantastic and just what we need heading into the postseason.
The Broncos, on the other hand, remain in quarterback misery. With an interim head coach for the final two weeks of the season, the Broncos will begin the hunt for new leadershipâsomething that is desperately needed. Iâve heard rumors of Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh (which will really make my dad upset). It remains to be seen if the Broncos can snag someone with such a high profile.
Next week, the Chiefs get the Raiders on Saturday afternoon football. (Cheers!) With a win and pending the decision from the NFL regarding the Bills-Bengals game, the Chiefs can hold the 1 seed and earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs. That would be great given the injuries to Skyy Moore, Joe Thuney, and LaâJarius Sneed.
The Broncos, on the other hand, host the Chargers and likely are looking at a loss carried into the offseason, one that will be tumultuous at best. Who knows what happens in the offseason, but I can all but guarantee a loss for the Donkeys.
