Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey earned his first Pro Bowl nomination for his excellence in the 2022 campaign.

Every year, the Kansas City Chiefs are used to sending one veteran after another to the Pro Bowl as part of a yearly huddle of players to take part in the NFL’s version of a weekend of All-Star festivities. While some of those same veterans have been invited back once again, a few first-year players were also nominated to take part including center Creed Humphrey.

Humphrey was the Chiefs’ second-round pick back in the 2021 NFL Draft, taken in the same round as linebacker Nick Bolton, and he’s been a cornerstone on the offensive line ever since he joined the team.

Coming out of college, Humphrey was named as a pro-ready center prospect who already had plenty of experience blocking up front for some of college football’s greatest quarterback talents—a list that includes Spencer Rattler, Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, and Baker Mayfield—which put him right at home in front of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense.

Humphrey is now in his second NFL season and has earned plenty of respect from analysts, fellow players, and fans. He spoke to reporters earlier this week about the honor.

"“Yeah, it’s a huge honor,” Humphrey explained. “I’m very excited about it. It kind of just shows how good the guys around me have been playing. I couldn’t be in this position without them, so you know those guys around me made my job a lot easier and have just made me a better player overall because of them. So credit to them and thanks to them.”"

The Chiefs have enjoyed a steady string of exemplary performers up front. Players before Humphrey at center in the last decade for the Chiefs include fellow Pro Bowlers like Rodney Hudson and Mitch Morse.

Humphrey will be joined by fellow linemen Orlando Brown Jr. and Joe Thuney in this year’s Pro Bowl to go with punter Tommy Townsend, defensive lineman Chris Jones, tight end Travis Kelce, and Mahomes.

It’s going to be an interesting week for the Denver Broncos in the wake of a complete shakeup of the team’s coaching staff. However, they aren’t the only ones making an adjustment. On the other side, the Chiefs will be busy trying to figure out the best approach to defeating the Broncos at home in a game that’s vital for them to win in order to stay in the hunt for the top seed in the conference. How will they perform without Nathaniel Hackett? It can’t be much worse.
