How did the rookies on the Kansas City Chiefs play in the 24-10 victory versus the Seattle Seahawks?

The Kansas City Chiefs have improved to 12-3 with their Week 16 victory against the Seattle Seahawks. Which rookies saw playing time against Seattle and how did those players perform?

The Chiefs selected ten players in this 2022 NFL Draft, with nine of them making the final roster after training camp, and eight have seen playing time on offense or defense so far this season. Despite making the final roster, Darian Kinnard has only dressed for one game this season, in which he only saw six snaps on special teams, and Nazeeh Johnson is on the practice squad but has dressed in nine games this season, playing only special teams snaps.

Here are the snap counts for every rookie in Week 16:

  • Trent McDuffie, CB: 81 total snaps (76 defensive and 5 special teams)
  • Bryan Cook, S: 49 total snaps (31 defensive and 18 special teams)
  • Jaylen Watson, CB: 41 defensive snaps (35 defensive and 6 special teams)
  • Leo Chenal, LB: 41 total snaps (21 defensive and 20 special teams)
  • George Karlaftis, EDGE: 33 total snaps (31 defensive and 2 special teams)
  • Joshua Williams, CB: 32 total snaps (20 defensive and 12 special teams)
  • Isiah Pacheco, RB: 27 total snaps (26 offensive and 1 special team)
  • Skyy Moore, WR: 12 total snaps (11 offensive snaps and 1 special team)

Skyy Moore, Wide Receiver (Round 2, Pick 54)

Another frustrating game for Skyy Moore as he managed to record just one catch for 5 yards on a single target.

After the disaster of a game that Justin Watson had, Skyy Moore needs to play a bigger role. It honestly doesn’t matter that Watson is more experienced than Moore, as the latter is without a doubt the better player. It’s possible that Skyy is struggling to grasp the playbook and that explains his quiet role to date, but he is more talented than the player with 268 career receiving yards before this season.

Joshua Williams, Cornerback (Round 4, Pick 135)

It was not the best of days for rookie cornerback Joshua Williams as he committed two penalties, both on the same drive, including one that wiped out a third-down sack and handed Seattle a free first down. The Seahawks would end up kicking a field goal on that drive. Also, for the second week in a row, Jaylen Watson played more defensive snaps than Williams, which was not the case for the previous six games after the bye week. Although he had a pass breakup, the two penalties made it a rough day overall for Williams in coverage. He was very good in his limited run defense snaps as he recorded a defensive stop.

After a strong performance last week, Joshua Williams took a step back this week, especially in coverage. He was always going to be a project, but the Chiefs need him to play well if they want to beat Cincinnati and/or Buffalo in the playoffs.
