2. Orlando Brown Jr., Left Tackle

Another low-hanging fruit pick, but I had to include it. To be fair to Orlando Brown Jr., I believe he’s been much better than what many fans in Chiefs Kingdom believe, especially over the past seven games, but he’s not even close to the level of player that would warrant the huge contract that he desires.

After a very rocky start to the 2022 season, he seems to have settled in but is still not playing anywhere close to an elite level. According to PFF ($), he’s tied for the most pressures given up among tackles with 40, with right tackle Andrew Wylie third at 39, and is tied for 53rd in Pass Blocking Efficiency among players at his position. He’s also 35th, among tackles, in overall pass-blocking grade but is 17th in true pass sets (“True Pass Set” excludes plays with less than 4 rushers, play action, screens, short dropbacks, and time-to-throws under 2 seconds).

Brett Veach is fortunate that Orlando Brown Jr. rejected his final contract offer in July as it would have had a chance to be the worst contract he’s ever signed as the Chiefs general manager, only rivaling the Frank Clark contract.

OBJ is likely looking at another year on the franchise tag in 2023 or possibly even a tag and trade. I doubt that Kansas City would just let him walk since they gave up so much for him, but anything is possible.
