KC Chiefs promote Brandon Williams to active roster

In a move that was fairly telegraphed ahead of time, the Kansas City Chiefs have promoted Brandon Williams to the active roster.
The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to promote defensive lineman Brandon Williams to the active roster on Thursday ahead of Week 14. It’s uncertain how much he might play just yet, given how new he is to the team, but it’s clear the Chiefs are planning on having him earn some rotational reps at least during the upcoming stretch run of the regular season.
The Chiefs first signed Williams to their practice squad last week in a series of moves that has brought on board experienced players as the team edges closer to the postseason. Other such veterans added include running back Melvin Gordon, wide receiver Bryan Edwards, and former starting center Austin Reiter.
With Williams on board, who has a long history with Chiefs defensive line coach Joe Cullen, the Chiefs released Taylor Stallworth earlier this week in a move that opened up a roster spot along the defensive interior for someone to fill and it only made sense that Williams would fill that role, perhaps in an effort to add a veteran presence and help shore up the team’s run defense. Stallworth was later claimed by the Houston Texans.
Williams, who is now 33 years old, is a Kirkwood, Missouri native who has been in the league since 2013. He’s made 114 starts in the last 9 years for the Baltimore Ravens and has 323 tackles and 5 fumble recoveries in that span of time.
