Texans claim Taylor Stallworth on waivers from KC Chiefs
By Matt Conner
The Houston Texans have submitted the winning claim on defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth, which means he will join the AFC South team for the stretch run after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs released Stallworth on Tuesday in a bit of a surprise move that created a roster spot that has yet to be filled.
Stallworth joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal this offseason as a free agent signing intended to provide competition and experience along the defensive interior. The Chiefs watched Stallworth through the preseason but ultimately defensive tackle Khalen Saunders outplayed him in training camp and made the decision rather easy on the Chiefs.
The Houston Texans have been awarded the opportunity to employ Taylor Stallworth after claiming him on waivers from the K.C. Chiefs.
Stallworth then joined the Chiefs’ practice squad and sat there for the first several weeks of the season before being promoted to the active roster in time to play in Week 7. Stallworth has been on the team’s active roster ever since.
The Chiefs actually play the Texans coming up in Week 15, so it won’t be long until they see him again. For the Texans, they should be familiar with Stallworth since his days with the Indianapolis Colts. The. Texans and Colts play each other twice each season in the same division, and Stallworth played in 32 games for Indy over the last two years.
The Chiefs haven’t made it known how they will fill that roster spot, but the recent signing of defensive lineman Brandon Williams to the practice squad seems a fairly telegraphed move at this stage.
