The Kansas City Chiefs watched Clyde Edwards-Helaire leave with an injury during the team’s game against the L.A. Chargers in Week 11.

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to an ankle injury early in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team has already designated him as questionable to return.

The word is that he hurt his ankle after limping off of the field and going into the locker room.

Edwards-Helaire came in after Isiah Pacheco to start the game but got some early touches after going without a single touch last week for the first time in his career just last week in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Edwards-Helaire has 2 carries for 9 rushing yards so far on the night, but without him, the Chiefs will lean even more on Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon to carry the football against the Chargers. The run game should work well against a Chargers defense that has struggled to slow the run in the past.

The Chiefs selected Edwards-Helaire in the first round for the 2020 NFL Draft but he’s yet to take over any lead back role despite the heavy investment. Inconsistent play and injuries have played their part, but the Chiefs are clearly more excited by the production delivered by Pacheco on regular reps.

Edwards-Helaire has 69 carries for 293 rushing yards and 3 scores on the ground so far in 2022. He also has 17 catches for 3 more touchdowns and 151 receiving yards.
