The Raiders were supposed to compete with the Chiefs for the top spot in the AFC West. However, that isn’t even close to happening.

We are right at the halfway point of the season, but it has felt like a long season for the Las Vegas Raiders. As many recall, the Raiders hired Josh McDaniels as their head coach. The Raiders traded for wide receiver Davante Adams, which had a big impact on the Kansas City Chiefs eventually trading Tyreek Hill.

This led to Raiders fans believing that not only would the Chiefs, and more specifically Patrick Mahomes, would regress, but the Raiders would also thrive.

Let’s just say that didn’t age well.

Not only are the Chiefs tied for first place in the AFC at the moment, the Raiders are the tied for the second worst record in the conference. Even worse, the Raiders have blown three huge shutout leads this season.

In Week 2, the Raiders led the Arizona Cardinals 20-0 late in the third quarter, only to lose in overtime. The Raiders were inching closer to field goal range in overtime, which would have won them the game. Instead, a forced fumble by Olathe North grad Isaiah Simmons turned into a defensive touchdown, keeping the Raiders winless at the time.

Three weeks later, the Raiders were up 17-0 on the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. The Chiefs, in typical Chiefs form, came back as they went on a 20-12 run to come back and defeat their division rival.

If two blown leads were not enough, how about a hat trick?

The Raiders were in full control against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading them 17-0. As usual, the Raiders allowed the Jaguars to come back on a 27-3 run. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had two chances late in the fourth quarter to either win or tie the game, and he never came close to accomplishing that.

Even worse, the Raiders played the second-worst defense in the Saints when it came to points allowed. The Raiders not only were shut out last week by the Saints, but they failed to cross the 50-yard line until late in the game when all the backups were in.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have overcome two 10-0 deficits, plus the 17-0 deficit mentioned earlier against the Raiders. The Chiefs came back in all three of those games and won.

Everyone had very high expectations from the Raiders. For them to be tied for the second-worst team in the conference is not something anyone expected.

If you read the comments on the Raiders’ official YouTube channel, you will see a lot of distressed Raiders fans demanding change across the board. Even Rich Eisen, one of the biggest NFL media personalities and one of the bigger supporters of the Raiders, is rescinding his pick of the Raiders winning the division.

To say Raider Nation is disappointed is an understatement. As Chiefs fans, we’ll take it.
