KC Chiefs have already overcome three big deficits this season
The Kansas City Chiefs have started slow and trailed by multiple possessions in three of their games and won all three of those games.
The Kansas City Chiefs have gotten off to a slow start in a few of their games already this season. In three games this season, they were down by at least two scores and came back to win all three of those games.
In Week 2 on Thursday Night Football, the Chiefs trailed the Los Angeles Chargers 10-0 early in the game and won 27-24. Three weeks later on Monday Night Football, the Chiefs were down 17-0 against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs went on a 30-12 scoring run, including scoring 17 unanswered points at one point, and came out on top to defeat another division rival at home. And most recently, the Chiefs faced a 10-0 deficit against the San Francisco 49ers last week and won 44-23.
As Chiefs fans know, this team should never be counted out. During their Super Bowl run in 2019, the Chiefs overcame a 24-0 deficit against the Houston Texans in the divisional round of the playoffs and erased that deficit in 10 minutes when they scored 28 points in the second quarter. The Chiefs trailed by 10 in the AFC Championship game against the Tennessee Titans and by 10 points again in the Super Bowl against the 49ers and won both of those games.
It is worth saying again: The Chiefs should never be written off. We’ve seen them score 28 points in one quarter twice. Including the playoffs, the Chiefs have played 81 games with Patrick Mahomes as the starting quarterback and have only lost three games by more than one possession.
It’s still worth noting that the slow starts should be addressed and head coach Andy Reid will certainly work on that. While it is nice to see the Chiefs overcome these deficits and win in comeback fashion, it won’t be easy to do against a top-tier team, especially in the playoffs. Yes, the Chiefs have done it many times, including in the postseason, but it’s certainly not ideal.
The Chiefs lead the NFL in points per game, scoring just under 32 points each game on average. If the Chiefs’ offense can play consistently for four quarters, not only will they continue to lead the league in that category, but also create a big gap between them and the Bills, who are second in points per game.
If the Chiefs can improve on the slow starts, they’ll not only keep winning, but they’ll win their games by big margins.
