The Kansas City Chiefs are visiting the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. Let’s look at how FanDuel Sportsbook sees it playing out early in the week.

The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers are slated to meet on Sunday afternoon. It will be the first non-preseason matchup between the two since the Chiefs topped the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

That alone should be enough fuel to fire up each of these organizations, but more recent history, however, is what both teams are looking to improve upon. Kansas City was unable to pull off another miracle comeback in their divisional round rematch with Buffalo this past week, and San Francisco was upset as road favorites in Atlanta in their last game.

Chiefs vs 49ers Week 7 odds

FanDuel Sportsbook has released its odds for Week 7 and is calling the Chiefs -3 point favorites, with a point total set at 48.5.

At this point in the season, we all start to feel a bit more confident in what we know about each team. The Chiefs’ offense was stifled last week by an excellent Bills defense but is still one of the most impressive and efficient in football. The 49ers, on the other hand—from a perspective of yards allowed per game—feature the only defense in the league that is more statistically impressive than the Bills. This makes for some good and some bad news for Chiefs Kingdom.

The good news is that this game marks the end of the toughest stretch of the Chiefs’ schedule, but the bad news is that it feels like a must-win. With the Chargers outlasting the Broncos on Monday Night Football this week, a Chiefs loss would truly open the floodgates for an AFC West division race. Taking on the top-two defenses in the league in consecutive weeks is a mighty tall task.

That said, the trends of recent history between these teams are in favor of Kansas City. The Chiefs are 2-1 against the 49ers since Andy Reid became the head coach, with each of their two victories coming by 11-point margins. The lone loss was by a single score when San Francisco won 17-22 in 2014. It’s more likely that the completeness Kansas City has shown thus far as a team is what earned them favor from odds makers for Sunday, but Andy Reid’s history is interestingly consistent and worth noting before any game.

Encouraging to Chiefs fans is that this league-leading San Francisco defense just allowed their highest opponents’ points total last week to the Atlanta Falcons (28), so there is a way to beat them. Additionally, the Chiefs’ defense is likely to make strides toward complete health this week with potential returns of Rashad Fenton, Bryan Cook, and Trent McDuffie to the secondary. Fenton and Cook both carried questionable status’ ahead of Week 6, while McDuffie remained stashed on the IR. If Kansas City can get any—or all three—of them back for this game it will likely further improve their odds as favorites to win.

Chiefs vs 49ers Week 7 prediction

No matter who returns to the field, or what storyline we choose to focus on, this Sunday will be another physical and intense challenge for the Chiefs. Two prideful and recently successful organizations will bring high intensity to the afternoon slate, but I like the Chiefs getting back on track in Week 7. The Bills game was far from a disaster, considering how many people were calling for a convincing Buffalo victory, and K.C. is only getting healthier.

Chiefs 27, 49ers 24
