The Week 6 Buffalo Bills-Kansas City Chiefs matchup could be the biggest regular season game of the season. Here are four reasons why.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are set to face off in Week 6 for what could be the game of the year in the 2022-23 NFL season. Both teams are 4-1. Both teams lead their divisions. Both teams are looking to avenge their overtime losses from last year’s playoffs. Both teams have Super Bowl aspirations this season.
Compared to last year, the Bills mostly kept their core together, while the Chiefs traded the best wide receiver the franchise will likely ever see and let the leader of their defense over the past three seasons walk in free agency.
It’s not often that a regular season, non-divisional game in the middle of October is crowned the “Game of the Year” before it’s even played. Even though it’s not a primetime matchup, this game will actually be nationally televised, which is extremely rare for a game that isn’t primetime or an overseas game.
This game is important and much anticipated for a variety of reasons.
Here are four reasons why the Buffalo-Kansas City game on Sunday will live up to the hype and be the Game of the Year this season:
Playoff Rematch from 2020 and 2021
In each of the previous two seasons, the Buffalo Bills were sent home for the offseason by the Kansas City Chiefs after playoff losses at Arrowhead Stadium. In January 2021, the Chiefs defeated the Bills 38-24 to advance to Super Bowl LV. Last January, Kansas City defeated Buffalo 42-36 to advance to the 2022 AFC Championship Game.
Their matchup last October was much anticipated last year because they met in the playoffs nine months earlier. This year, using the same reasoning, the game will be exponentially more anticipated than last year’s October matchup.
It’s possible these two teams are on a collision course to meet again in the playoffs for the third straight season, and they’re also scheduled to play again in the 2023 regular season, so imagine the hype of next year’s game if the game this year is one of the most anticipated NFL regular season games in the last decade.
