2. The Raiders Defense

The Raiders entered this weekend’s games allowing the 9th most points per game in the league. While allowing 25 points per game may not sound that bad, they also haven’t been going against the best offenses in the league. Below are their opponents in the first four weeks of the season, where that opponent’s offense ranks in points per game going into last weekend’s games, how many points they average, and then how many points they scored against the Raiders.

Los Angeles Chargers – 12th – 23 PPG avg – 24
Arizona Cardinals – 14th – 22 PPG avg – 29
Tennessee Titans – 21st – 18.8 PPG avg – 24
Denver Broncos – 31st – 15 PPG avg – 23

So the Raiders haven’t faced an offense any higher than 12th in points per game. They haven’t faced an offense averaging any more than 23 points per game thus far, and yet all four of their opponents scored 23 points or more. In fact, all four of their opponents so far have scored more points against the Raiders than they are averaging on the season. The Chiefs enter this game averaging 32.3 points per game. That’s not a good sign for the Raiders who are going to want to avoid getting into a shootout.

The worries for Las Vegas on defense don’t end with points allowed either. The Raiders entered this weekend allowing the 6th highest yards per passing attempt in the NFL and the 5th highest completion percentage allowed. That’s not good when Patrick Mahomes is next up on the schedule. Plus, the strength of the Raiders defense is supposed to be their pass rush and while Maxx Crosby is off to another great start, their five team sacks through four games were tied for the fifth-fewest in the NFL after four weeks.

Finally, while the Raiders have done a decent job of stopping the run overall, they have allowed the 5th most rushing touchdowns through four weeks. So if KC gets down to the goal line area, they should have an easy time getting into the endzone.

Speaking of defense, let’s look at why there is reason to believe the Chiefs defense will have a good night as well.
