Bryan Cook leaves Chiefs vs. Colts with injury

The Kansas City Chiefs lost Bryan Cook to an injury when playing against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3 on the road.

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost rookie safety Bryan Cook to an injury in their game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 3.

On the opening kickoff of the second half, Chiefs rookie running back Isiah Pacheco ran the ball back for K.C. before the offense took the field. However, Cook went down on the play and was attended to by trainers on the field before being escorted Into the team’s medical tent on the sidelines.

Cook was the second of the Chiefs’ second-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft as part of a massive influx of youth across the team’s defense. As a hard-hitting safety out of the University of Cincinnati, Cook was taken along with cornerback Trent McDuffie out of Washington in the first round to give them two impact playmakers to go with several other picks in the secondary as well.

So far this season, Cook has played sparingly on defense behind safeties Juan Thornhill and Justin Reid, to go with Deon Bush. He has been a stalwart on special teams units for Dave Toub.

Coming into the game, the Chiefs were already dealing with a number of injuries including defensive end Mike Danna, who is out with a calf; kicker Harrison Butker, who has an ankle injury; offensive tackle Lucas Niang, who has yet to play this season; and Trent McDuffie, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring from Week 1..
