KC Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay suspended for 4 games

Linebacker Willie Gay of the Kansas City Chiefs has been suspended by the NFL for the next four games.
On Monday, the National Football League announced the suspension of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay, Jr. for the next four games of the regular season schedule. The news comes on the heels of the Chiefs’ recent win on Thursday Night Football over the L.A. Chargers as they prepare for a road trip to play the Indianapolis Colts.
According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, the suspension comes in response to the misdemeanor charge brought about by an arrest for property damage stemming from an argument with his son’s mother back in January.
FanSided’s own Matt Verderame says there will no appeal for Gay forthcoming, per a source.
Gay was arrested back in January after an altercation in which a vacuum cleaner, a wall, and other items were damaged. Earlier this summer, Gay reached a plea deal on the entire affair which allowed him to enter a diversion program for 12 months. Instead of going through a prolonged process with a jury involved and potential jail time, Gay now has to undergo counseling, pay fines, and take drug tests.
On top of that, however, the NFL has now decided to suspend Gay in the midst of a season that’s already underway. The timing feels funny, but the Chiefs are going to have to roll with it.
Gay was the team’s second-round pick back in the 2020 NFL Draft and has teamed with Nick Bolton, also a second-round pick, to give the Chiefs a dynamic young tandem that has helped re-energize the entire defense. So far this season, Gay has 16 tackles and 2 passes deflected in 111 snaps.
