Everyone is loving the incredible job by the Kansas City Chiefs ground crew to remake the 1972 end zones and midfield logo for Thursday Night Football.
One of the cooler storylines of this week when it comes to the much-anticipated Thursday Night Football showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and visiting Los Angeles Chargers had nothing to do with players or coaches involved. Instead, it was the actual field of play that’s been turning heads all week long as the Chiefs broadcast their plans and process to turn back the clock 50 years for the event.
The Chiefs gave a decidedly retro look to the playing surface of Arrowhead Stadium this week by turning the end zones and the midfield logo into remakes of their 1972 counterparts.
Travis Hogan is the Chiefs’ head groundskeeper and he said they brought back George Toma, former head groundskeeper for the Truman Sports Complex, to help with the look. The end results are stunning.
After a week of questionable turf on the field at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona in Week 1, a scenario in which a couple of Chiefs players were injured because of it—including cornerback Trent McDuffie and kicker Harrison Butker—it’s nice to be back at Arrowhead where the facilities are world-class and the look has everyone buzzing. And for the best view of the field, look to the Chiefs official Twitter account.
