In the second week of the NFL season, the Chiefs may have found their toughest opponent and most consequential matchup of the season. We discuss.

It seems silly to think that a week 2 matchup on a Thursday night may have the biggest ramifications for the Kansas City Chiefs‘ season, but in this case, that just may be. Both Kansas City and Los Angeles enter this game as the front runners for the AFC West. The preposterous debate over Mahomes and Herbert has begun. All eyes are on this matchup because it very well could decide how the season plays out.

The Chargers enter week 2 as victors in a tough battle with the Raiders and not only have a 1-0 record in their overall standings, but also a 1-0 record against the AFC West. If the Chiefs fall short in this week’s matchup, they could be staring down the barrel of a second-place finish in the West.

Of course, the NFL season is always unpredictable: Injuries happen, and teams get off to a good start and blow it at the end of the year. This year, however, seems like the one chance that the rest of the AFC West will have to knock Kansas City off of the throne during this current era. The Chargers seem like the team that is best suited to knock off the defending AFC West champs.
