The Kansas City Chiefs continue to lose players to injury in their season opener, the latest being rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie.

The Kansas City Chiefs added a couple of exciting new impact defenders during the 2022 NFL Draft with the selections of cornerback Trent McDuffie out of Washington and pass rusher George Karlaftis out of Purdue. So far, both players have made their presence felt in Week 1.

Unfortunately the Chiefs have lost McDuffie to a leg injury in which he was forced to seek attention in the medical tent and then ultimately get carted off of the field to the team’s locker room at State Farm Stadium.

Later the team announced that McDuffie would be out for the rest of the game with a hamstring injury.

Back in April, the Chiefs traded up from No. 29 overall in the first round with the New England Patriots in order to secure the services of McDuffie at No. 21. The cost was an extra third and fourth round pick to get him, but McDuffie has looked the part of a versatility shutdown corner since arriving on the team. Opposing offenses have largely avoided him outright even in the preseason and that was true for the first half of the Cardinals game as well.

The Chiefs will have more updates on McDuffie’s injury in the days to come, but it might be too short of a week ahead for McDuffie to come back for Week 2. Further details to come.
