The Tennessee Titans have signed former Chiefs wide receiver Josh Gordon to their practice squad before the 2022 season.

The Kansas City Chiefs made it clear that they were hoping to see wide receiver Josh Gordon back with the team after releasing him on Tuesday, but that’s not going to happen after the Tennessee Titans convinced the veteran to sign with their practice squad instead.

Gordon has a long and interesting employment history known to most NFL fans as a talented but oft-suspended player who could never stay on the field long enough to establish long-term dominance. Yet his proven production in years past has been enough to keep teams interested even several years later.

Gordon signed with the Chiefs last season but failed to cement any real chemistry with Patrick Mahomes or gain any synergy within the offense. Despite playing in 12 games, he had only 5 catches on 14 targets for 32 yards and 1 touchdown in 219 snaps for Kansas City.

Now at the age of 31, it seems an even greater stretch to expect anything of Gordon in Nashville, but the Chiefs swore by his work ethic and attitude and maintained a public-facing belief that he would eventually work his way in. However, when it came to this year’s training camp, he was passed by new faces, and his inability to play special teams gave way to players like Justin Watson claiming roster spots above him.

Gordon has 252 career catches for 4,284 yards and 21 touchdowns in his NFL career.
