The Kansas City Chiefs lost cornerback Rashad Fenton to an injury in the first half of their preseason game against the Commanders.

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Saturday’s preseason contest against the visiting Washington Commanders with a number of injuries on both sides of the ball to be concerned about. Unfortunately, cornerback Rashad Fenton can now be added to that list after watching him leave the field to seek medical attention in the first half of Saturday’s contest at Arrowhead Stadium.

Fenton came up a bit gingerly in the second quarter and subsequently came off the field to seek help from trainers. He went into the team’s medical tent on the sideline and came out with his helmet off.  The Chiefs then made the announcement that he’d been diagnosed with a groin injury and was designated as “out” for the rest of the game.

Fenton has already been a health concern for the Chiefs this preseason as he’s worked his way back into game shape after going through surgery on his shoulder. He started the preseason on the physically unable to play list. It’s also notable that Fenton missed time last season with a concussion and knee/back injuries. That’s not to say that Fenton missed a lot of time, because he did play in 14 games.

The Chiefs have to be pleased with the production and growth they’ve seen from Fenton since first selecting him in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He’s grown from a special teams role player to sometime starter and is now one of the proven performers in a very young secondary filled with rookie competitors. Last year for the Chiefs he had 49 tackles and 7 passes deflected and allowed an 84.0 passer rating when targeted.
