Kansas City Chiefs fourth-year cornerback Rashad Fenton announced on Twitter his return to practice after a successful rehabbing of his shoulder.

After weeks of hearing the same update on Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Rashad Fenton, the fourth-year vet is officially back to full strength and has rejoined the team. He took to Twitter this morning to share the news himself.

Andy Reid has played the role of a broken record since Fenton was placed on the PUP in late July. Ahead of his fourth year as a pro, he has spent the entirety of the offseason recovering from shoulder surgery. A nagging issue that made up only a fraction of his injury problems in 2021.

As CB3 on the depth chart last season—behind L’Jarius Sneed and Charvarius Ward—Fenton was evaluated for a concussion in September, a knee injury in November, and a back injury in the postseason. The latter made him unavailable for the Wild Card and Divisional rounds, and Fenton also required offseason surgery, from which he’s been rehabbing for much of the offseason.

This year, with Ward gone, Fenton is expected to take on a larger role focused on higher-profile receivers, at least while first-round pick Trent McDuffie gets up to speed. No matter what role it is that Fenton is tasked with, however, it is always a good thing to see No. 27 on the field. Between himself and Sneed — a safety in college — there is a different level of ferocity on the field when they are both active. Having two of the best tacklers on the team positioned in the secondary brings an air of confidence that has to be felt to be understood.

A full season of health from the secondary laid out on the Chiefs depth chart will lead to improved opportunity and numbers among the front four, and will help to transform the identity of the defense.
