The Kansas City Chiefs are now officially down to the 85-man roster limit with the release of Austin Edwards and Devin Gray.

With the release of wide receiver Devin Gray and defensive lineman Austin Edwards, the Kansas City Chiefs are now within the 85-man roster limit required by the NFL by Tuesday’s deadline of 4:00 p.m. E.T.

The Chiefs previously cut a handful of players on Monday, including veteran cornerback Lonnie Johnson, who was acquired via trade from the Houston Texans earlier this offseason. Wide receivers Gary Jennings and Omar Bayless were also let go on Monday, which means with the release of Gray as well, the position of wide receiver is clearing up quite a bit from one week to the next.

Edwards is the more familiar name of the two players released by the Chiefs on Tuesday. The defensive end has been with the Chiefs since he signed a futures deal back in January of 2021 and lingered on the team’s practice squad through the regular season last year. The Ferris State product went undrafted in 2020 but latched on with the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie free agent in that first year and was even elevated to the active roster.

As for Gray, he was with the Philadelphia Stars in the USFL last season and earned a tryout with the Chiefs earlier this month. The team signed him on August 6, but his stay was short-lived. That’s not all that surprising given how crowded the position still looks even after waiving three players.
