The Kansas City Chiefs allowed Justin Reid to kick an extra point in the preseason game against the Bears and he converted.
The Kansas City Chiefs are already set at kicker, so Harrison Butker has no real reason to be nervous, but just in case something happens to the team’s primary option when trying out field goals or extra points, it appears that safety Justin Reid is plenty capable of taking over those responsibilities from time to time—at least on a very short-term basis.
On Saturday, head coach Andy Reid allowed Chiefs safety Justin Reid the chance to go into the game close to halftime and kick the team’s extra point on a drive in which quarterback Shane Buechele had found wide receiver Justin Watson for a touchdown to put the team up 14-0.

It’s a lot of fun to see Reid given the chance, but it’s even more interesting knowing that earlier this week in practice, we saw Reid doing his own impersonation of Jan Stenerud when he attempted and made a 65-yard field goal in practice:
Given that Butker is a model of consistency at the position—and frankly, someone who deserves a Pro Bowl nod at this point—no one in or around the Chiefs organization will be asking Reid to handle kicking duties anytime soon. However, it’s entertaining to see the Chiefs loose and excited like they are and it’s quite impressive to know that Reid has a serious leg on him.
If anything else, the Chiefs are now even deeper than we thought they were. We also know Justin Reid is more well-rounded than perhaps anyone realized.
