Devon Key

Devon Key joined the Chiefs last year as a rookie free agent out of Western Kentucky. He was a versatile defensive back with experience playing all over the secondary with a penchant for being a heavy hitter, a tackling machine whose instincts were going to make him a potential sleeper to latch onto the active roster.

One year in, this should be Key’s big moment. Tyrann Mathieu is gone. Daniel Sorensen is gone. Armani Watts is gone. While the Chiefs brought in plenty of competition, the truth is Key has a year of experience on names like Jaylen Watson or Nasir Greer or Nazeeh Johnson, just to name a few.

The frustration here is that we’ve not heard anything about Key to date. It seems he’s as healthy as ever, but the buzz just isn’t there, even as some of the newer faces are making their presence felt. Key still has time and the secondary needs a lot of help, so there’s still some hope here. That said, Key needs a good week of practice before a strong showing against the Chicago Bears.
