Andrew Wylie, Right Tackle

Andrew Wylie is currently penciled in at right tackle for the Chiefs and his role is most definitely not secure. He finished last season as the starting right tackle and played well the majority of the time. He’s not viewed as a starter in the same light as others on this list, but due to inexperience and injury concerns behind him, he is the projected starter for Kansas City.

Though I view Andrew Wylie as the Chiefs’ best option to protect Patrick Mahomes on the right side, it would not surprise me if he is demoted to the second team due to Darian Kinnard surpassing expectations and/or Lucas Niang (if he can return before the end of camp) getting back to 100%. The Chiefs also have Geron Christian, who played very well for the Texans last season, that may also be gunning for Wylie’s job.

The Chiefs should have little interest in experimenting on the offensive line. They need to go with the best starting five they can, and with four of five spots secured, that leaves right tackle as a position that will have a competition for the next several weeks. Wylie is not Creed Humphrey or Joe Thuney and will have to earn the right to be the starting right tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. A lackluster performance in camp could be catastrophic to his hopes of starting.
