KC Chiefs reward Travis Kelce with raise for 2022 season

The Kansas City Chiefs have rewarded Travis Kelce with an amended contract giving him a raise for the 2022 season.
Given his position as the single best tight end in the game of football—and his standing historically alongside the best to ever play the position—it makes sense that the Kansas City Chiefs would want to keep Kelce happy by keeping his financial compensation commensurate with everything he provides the franchise on and off the field. Thus, it’s not a big surprise to see the Chiefs giving Kelce a raise for the ’22 season.
Per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs have adjusted Kelce’s contract (with his permission) to give him a raise for the present season by taking from the “back of the deal.”
Kelce originally signed a four-year, $52.75 million deal back in 2020 which piggybacked on another deal to keep him locked up in K.C. through the 2025 season.
The Chiefs have always relied on Kelce ever since he took to the field in 2014 to start his career after missing his rookie season due to injury. Kelce has turned in an NFL record six consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards receiving or more and a seventh seems guaranteed after the trade of Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. In short, if the Chiefs weren’t already overly dependent on Kelce before, then the 2022 season should feature even more of him than before given his talents, chemistry with Patrick Mahomes, and familiarity with Andy Reid’s offense.
