The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Justyn Ross on injured reserve, ending any ability he has to play for the 2022 season.
If there were any remaining hopes that promising wide receiver Justyn Ross might be able to log some reps for the Kansas City Chiefs this season as an undrafted find, those chances were officially stomped out on Monday when the team placed Ross on injured reserve. Per NFL reporter Field Yates, Ross’s season is now officially over.
Ross was once a star wide receiver for Clemson not so long ago, the sort of difference-maker who was projected to be a potential first wideout taken in his NFL Draft class. Then injuries began to take their toll after productive and promising seasons in both his first two years for the Tigers.
After Ross went surprisingly undrafted this spring, the Chiefs were able to sign him as a rookie free agent and the buzz was instant. However, it was clear over time that he wasn’t fully healthy and was even recently seen in a walking boot before the news broke that he’d undergone another recent surgery in order to clean up a previous foot injury suffered in college.
The Chiefs placed Ross on the Physically Unable to Play list to begin training camp a few days ago along with three other players and now Ross is on injured reserve, which ends any chance he has of returning to the field for the Chiefs this season. That makes him a future stash in the same way the Chiefs kept defensive end Malik Herring of Georgia around for the last year.
