There have been a lot of surprises when it comes to free agency this offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs—both those coming and going.

It’s been an unpredictable offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs—that much is for sure.

Heading into this spring, if someone would have said the Chiefs would have plenty of cap space and a draft class of 10 rookies in late May, that would have been shocking enough. But to then hear that they would need those players to replace Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu among others would have been taking things to another level.

This offseason, the market forced general manager Brett Veach into some very difficult decisions and the end result was a switch being flipped to take this roster into its next phase. Instead of another run with a familiar group of veterans hoping to cement their names into NFL history with a potential Super Bowl appearance, the Chiefs blew things up and took advantage of a deep draft in order to lay an exciting foundation for the future.

But the draft and the trade block weren’t the only areas of excitement this offseason. It turns out that free agency held plenty of surprises for the Chiefs as well—both for players coming and going. Here’s a look at some of the biggest surprises of free agency for the Chiefs this offseason.
